The Months
Imdelltra plus Imfinzi extended median survival to 21.1 months versus 12.7 in extensive-stage small cell lung cancer. Serious side effects were 20.9% versus 10.8%.
21.1 months versus 12.7. The side-effect line travels with the number.
At the European Society for Medical Oncology meeting in Madrid, and in the New England Journal of Medicine, Amgen reported that Imdelltra plus AstraZeneca's Imfinzi reduced the risk of death by 58% compared with Imfinzi alone, in extensive-stage small cell lung cancer. The trial had 563 patients.
Median overall survival was 21.1 months on the combination and 12.7 months on Imfinzi alone. Nearly 80% of combination patients were alive at one year, versus 53%. Serious side effects, including low white-cell counts, occurred in 20.9% versus 10.8%. Cytokine release syndrome was reported in 49.6% of patients who received Imdelltra. One case was serious. There were no CRS deaths. Discontinuation for adverse events was 5.7% versus 5.8%.
Imdelltra is a bispecific antibody. It is built to pull a T cell onto a cancer cell. The number is the card. The 20.9% is the half sentence that has to sit on the same card. This is not a segment. The brush already holds the health slot.
Key Facts

Why This Matters
Eight extra months of median survival is a number a person can hold. It is also a median, which means half the patients did not get that. The inflammatory side effect is common and, in this trial, almost never severe. Almost never is not never.
What We Don't Know Yet
How the curve looks with longer follow-up. Whether community hospitals can manage the cytokine release the way trial sites did. Whether the price lets the combination leave the trial.
