Honduras Clean Water Initiative Reaches Remote Communities

In some of Central America's most isolated communities, access to clean water has been a persistent challenge for generations. Now, an innovative South-South development partnership is changing that reality for 15,000 people in remote Miskito communities across Honduras.

The India-UN Development Partnership Fund supports a UNICEF program that goes beyond simply installing water infrastructure. The initiative trains community volunteers in soap-making and reusable sanitary pad production, addressing both hygiene and gender equality simultaneously.

This approach recognises that sustainable water access requires local capacity building alongside infrastructure. By training community members in production skills, the program creates lasting knowledge and economic opportunities that extend far beyond the initial intervention period.
