Chornomorsk Will Teach Repair in a Shelter
Organisers in Chornomorsk moved a 16 October repair festival into a shelter after the college room used for repair cafes was bombed.
Nataliia Pasenko moved the festival after the college room was bombed
Nataliia Pasenko runs a repair project in Chornomorsk, the port city on the Black Sea edge of Odesa Oblast. The college building where her team held repair cafes was bombed. The festival did not move to a slogan. It moved underground.
Times.od.ua reported on 7 October that a one-day Repair Day would be held on 16 October at the Chornomorsk Maritime Professional College of Odesa National Maritime University. The local notice says the main part of the event is in a protective shelter because of the security situation in the region. Positive News published the English account on 15 October, ahead of International Repair Day on 17 October, and named the bombing as the reason the usual room is gone.
Pasenko's line, carried by Positive News, is specific. She does not want the war to take away young people's chances to learn, create, experiment, meet each other, and imagine a future. She also said that fixing a broken thing, or finding a new use for it, is a result you can hold, and that this is especially useful right now. That is a claim about a feeling. It is not an attendance figure.
The rooms, if the shelter plan holds, are ordinary on purpose. A repair garage for bicycles, electronics and clothing. An experimental bench called "Take Me Apart," where people open objects they use every day. Do-it-yourself workshops. An exhibition, "Second Life of Things," on the path from discarded to used again. Communications for the project is Kateryna Boichuk. The international repair campaign, quoted by Positive News, called the shelter setting poignant and said the city is under attack. That is context, not a casualty count this desk has verified for today.
No one has published a crowd size, because the festival is the day's event, not last month's. Missile strikes on the city are the reason for the shelter, not a reason to pretend a repaired kettle is a ceasefire.

Why This Matters
Repair culture is usually a weekend in a church hall. Here the hall was hit, and the organisers published a date, a building, and a shelter plan anyway. The story is the plan. It is not a victory lap over a war.
What We Don't Know Yet
Whether the 16 October programme ran as noticed, how many people came, or whether an alert moved it again. This piece cannot review an event that was still ahead of it when the sources were filed. The scale of damage to the college building is described, not measured, in the English report.
